Brisbane

Queensland is known as the Sunshine State, beautiful one day, perfect the next.  Not surprisingly, there is a multitude of outdoor activities to enjoy.

Mt Coot-Tha

If you are looking for some tranquility not too far from the madding crowd, and only have a little time to spare, see Brisbane in all its glory from the Mt Coot-tha Lookout.  The specially built observation deck provides panoramic views of Brisbane.

The CBD, the meandering Brisbane River and on a clear day, which are most of the days in Queensland, you can also view the blue waters of Moreton Bay to the east and the Glasshouse Mountains and the D'Agilar Range to the West.

The surrounding Brisbane Botanic Gardens, provide a variety of experiences including the Tropical Display Dome, the Japanese Garden and the Freedom Wall that commemorates 50 years of freedom in the Pacific.

If you enjoy walking you can explore the gardens in a more structured fashion by taking one of the self-guided walks. The park also provides many opportunities for picnics under the trees or purpose built shelters when contemplating and eating is in order.

Southbank

Easily accessed from the CBD via the Goodwill Bridge, Southbank provides a diverse range of activities. Many cities boast magnificent rivers as their lifeblood, but very few can boast a beach! Streets Beach overlooks the Brisbane River and the CBD; a tropical oasis with its own lifeguards in the centre of Brisbane.

Complemented by 17 hectares of lush gardens and lawns; if swimming is not your thing then you can throw a Frisbee or hire a set of bocce balls for a game on the lawns.

If you prefer something a little more creative, then wander up to the Lifestyle Gardens to be tempted by an array of hand-crafted pieces of art or enjoy the salsa dancing exhibition on Friday nights on Little Stanley and Grey Streets.

Moreton Bay

If getting out of the city is what you are searching for then Moreton Bay offers a variety of attractions. Go back in time as you wander through the Cleveland Point Heritage Precinct or ride along the bike trails that hug the coast at Sandgate.

If you prefer to walk, the Wynnum mangrove boardwalk is a great place to entertain young minds by following the storybook trail, try bird watching or learn about the importance of the mangrove environment as you stroll along the boardwalk.
